10 PCOS-Friendly Indian Dinner Recipes (Low GI, High Protein)
Ten easy desi dinners for PCOS — moong dal khichdi with veggies, paneer bhurji, fish curry with millet, soya keema and more, each balanced for insulin.
Dinner is where most PCOS plans fall apart — you are tired, and rice or roti with a token sabzi is the default. These ten dinners are quick, familiar and built to keep your overnight blood sugar steady.
The dinner formula: one protein source (at least 20–25 g) + two fistfuls of vegetables + one small whole-grain carb + a healthy fat. Eat by 8–8:30 PM where possible, and walk for 10 minutes after.
1. Moong dal and vegetable khichdi
Split moong with foxtail millet instead of rice, loaded with lauki, carrot and beans, tempered in ghee with jeera and hing. Serve with curd. Comfort food that behaves.
2. Paneer bhurji with jowar roti
150 g paneer, onion-tomato-capsicum, one jowar roti. Around 25 g protein, minimal glucose spike.
3. Rajma or chana with brown rice (half portion)
Keep the legume portion large and the rice small. Add a big kachumber salad with lemon.
4. Tandoori chicken with sautéed vegetables
Yoghurt-marinated, air-fried or grilled. Skip the naan; add a millet roti if needed.
5. Fish curry with kodo millet
Coastal-style curry with tamarind and coconut. Fatty fish (mackerel, sardine, rohu) gives omega-3s that reduce PCOS inflammation.
6. Soya keema with multigrain roti
Soya granules cooked keema-style — high protein, budget-friendly, and useful for vegetarians. Keep to a moderate portion if you have thyroid issues.
7. Palak tofu / palak paneer with bajra roti
Iron, calcium and protein together. Bajra is warming and ideal for winter dinners.
8. Egg curry with cauliflower rice
Two eggs in a light onion-tomato gravy, served with grated cauliflower sautéed with jeera. Very low glycaemic load.
9. Sprouted moong chaat and grilled paneer tikka
For nights when you want a light dinner — no roti needed, still 20 g+ protein.
10. Vegetable and dal soup with roasted chana
For late dinners after 9 PM. Light, warm, protein-adequate, easy on digestion.
Dinner mistakes that quietly stall PCOS progress
- Roti-sabzi only, with almost no protein
- Late dinners at 10:30 PM followed by immediate sleep
- "Light dinner" = only fruit or only soup, leading to midnight sugar cravings
- Sweet after dinner as a daily ritual
- Curd at night is fine for most people; if you have a cough or cold, switch to buttermilk
